GRADUATION – CLASS OF 2020 – LAW – SOFIA UNIVERSITY
On 11th June, 2021, at the park of the Military Academy "G. S. Rakovski" the graduation ceremony of the graduates of the "Law" class at the Faculty of Law of Sofia University, was held.
The ceremony began with the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Daniel Valchev’s speech, who recalled that the academic community has always been a unity between teachers and students, a unity that is held together by the desire to pass on the knowledge of known, as well as by the curiosity and the persistence to dive into the unknown.
In his speech, Prof. Valchev expressed his hope that the time spent at the Faculty of Law has managed to convince young colleagues that being a lawyer means not only having a prestigious education, but being a lawyer is largely a matter of vocation. "In my opinion, this is to distinguish the truth from the untruth and to connect the established facts with those legal consequences that the legal norms give them," added Prof. Valchev. He said the fight for justice also requires constant efforts. "And although not all of us have the strength for such a struggle, each of us is obliged to realise the high public expectations of us, the lawyers," he added.
The Vice-Rector of Sofia University, Assoc. Prof. Aneta Antonova, who is also a lecturer at the Faculty of Law, congratulated the graduates for all the efforts they have made during their studies to reach the day of their graduation.
Assoc. Prof. Antonova pointed out that “People have a strong inner need for rules, for norms of behaviour, because norms create organisation in the place of chaos. Chaos means uncertainty." According to her, countries with a well-developed and stable legal system are the only ones able to provide their citizens with a sense of security in order to live their life to the fullest. "Contribute to the building of a renewed, modern, European Bulgaria, as we all deserve," said Assoc. Prof. Antonova and announced the 2020 graduating class of the Faculty of Law.
Nadezhda Jeleva, the excellent student of the class, also had the word: "I would like to thank all the teachers for the efforts, support and patience they have shown to all of us over the past five years," said Nadezhda Jeleva, emphasizing on the community built over the years and the friendships made. The caretaker Minister of Justice Prof. Yanaki Stoilov also congratulated the law graduates. Prof. Stoilov pointed out that legal education opens many doors and all graduates have the opportunity to pursue a number of professions, including academic careers, by becoming doctoral students and lecturers.
Judge Boyan Magdalinchev addressed the graduates, saying that this day is a holiday not only for them but also for the whole Bulgarian society, because our country needs young, enthusiastic and well-trained lawyers. "Life awaits you with all its challenges - surprises, chances, successes, in some cases - failures. Life is like that. Be brave, persistent and follow your dreams. In your professional realisation I wish you to have a constant striving for improvement and enthusiasm inherent in the young man," said Boyan Magdalinchev.
The Chairman of the Supreme Bar Council, lawyer Ivaylo Dermendzhiev, encouraged the graduates, if they decide to join the advocacy, never to forget that if the court speaks with its acts, the lawyer speaks with his word and his pleadings. He said he would be happy if there were colleagues among them who would join the ranks of lawyers and wished a successful journey to his youngest colleagues.
Prof. Dune Ivan Ruschev delivered an academic speech to the graduates of the 2020 class.
At the solemn ceremony, the graduates took the oath of allegiance to the law.
The ceremony continued with the distribution of diplomas.
